About us

ConstruktCLT specialises in the detail, delivery and assembly of cross-laminated timber buildings. We operate across the UK with a growing community of forward-thinking architects and engineers who see the value of CLT as an innovative building material.

We are always seeking to push the opportunities of CLT forward, working with manufacturers to find new ways to advance the timber industry both locally and abroad. We bring CLT and glulam architecture to life with ease, drawing on over 30 years experience at the forefront of timber innovation.

We believe in the beauty, strength and sustainable nature of CLT, working with trusted partners and suppliers across the UK and Europe to develop and innovate smarter timber solutions for a greener future. Through our deep understanding and experience in the project process, we are able to provide an in-depth, personalised service to each client.

Jim Johnstone

Founder & Project Principal

Jim started his career framing stick houses in Canada at the age of 19. After studying Fine Art and Art History, he returned to carpentry and has since gone on to be involved in some of the UK’s benchmark projects in the development of timber frame and engineered mass timber. With a wealth of experience in on-site construction and communication with architects, designers, installers and producers, Jim is well versed in delivering an exceptional timber build.

Driven to dispel any misconception that CLT is too expensive and only suitable for high rise and larger scale projects, Jim’s mission is to make CLT more accessible. His strong understanding and ongoing commitment to cross-laminated timber construction led to the founding of ConstruktCLT in 2016. The company has since built a reputation for prioritising the delivery of exceptional projects which foreground sustainable design, quality craftsmanship and architectural ambition.

Jim’s experience is embedded across all stages of the project process, contributing to positive collaboration between architects, designers, engineers, and installation teams.
